Winelands Hike and Fly experience

Activity Description

The Winelands Tandem Paragliding Hike and Fly experience is a half day adventure experience that combines a hike to the summit of a significant peak in the Cape Winelands and flying down from the mountain in a paraglider with a Tandem flight instructor. No previous paragliding experience is required but the hikes are strenuous and requires previous hiking experience. The experience offers unparalleled vistas of the Cape Winelands and an adventure that can only be described as “life changing”.
The guided hike is about 4km but up steep trails often over moderately technical terrain and takes two to three hours to complete. We start hiking around sunrise to capture the most beautiful time of the day and to give us the best chance of flying down. The paragliding gear is divided between you and your guide/instructor into backpacks of approximately 7kg each.
At the summit the instructor will assess the weather conditions and if safe, prepare you for the flight from the mountain. There is nothing that can prepare you for the thrilling experience of flying from a big mountain in a paraglider with your instructor. The flight takes us back to the meeting point where we will share the experience pictures and videos with you and celebrate the amazing experience.

WhereASHANTI ESTATE ENTRANCE - https://goo.gl/maps/xjhPrferGKE7KmqX6 We meet at the entrance to Ashanti Estate from where we drive to the start of the hiking trail. The drive to the start of the hiking trail is on the back of an open vehicle - please have warm clothing for this. When we fly down we land back at Ashanti estate from where we depart again.

WeatherParagliding is entirely weather dependent, we can only fly if the weather allows. Be sure to check in with us the evening before the day of your booking to confirm the weather is suitable. Sometimes the weather conditions at the summit are not suitable to fly and we have to hike down again. We do not take any chances with you, our valued client and will only fly if it is safe to do so. If we are unable to fly after hiking to the summit, you will only be billed 50% of the experience cost and be given the option to reschedule to another day.

What to Wear1. We recommend you wear light trousers or shorts suitable for hiking in. 2. Hiking boots/shoes or trail running shoes. 3. A hat, sunglasses and hiking poles are recommended. 4. Dresses, skirts and any sandals are not suitable.

Things to Bring1. A copy of your booking confirmation or gift voucher. 2. Sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses. 3. At least 1 litre of water. 4. Energy snack for the hike. 5. An extra t-shirt and a warm jacket to fly with.

Guests or SpectatorsIf you wish to bring guests to join on the hike but not fly down, we can arrange a guide that will escort the guests back down to the meeting point. Please contact us to make such arrangements and get the costs involved. Alternatively, your guest can wait for us at the meeting point where we will be landing.

2. Paragliding helmet and harness and hiking backpack to carry the gear.
3. The Experience media package of HD videos and pictures transferred to client devise.
4. Permits and conservation fees.

Exclusions

1. Pick-up and drop-off service.
2. Snacks and water.
3. INSURANCE.
4. Any form of guarantee that the weather will be flyable at the summit.
