Visit the home of the recently launched Grootbos Florilegium. The Hannarie Wenhold Botanical Art Gallery built on Grootbos Nature Reserve is an innovative space dedicated to the Florilegium’s fine botanical artworks and is a celebration of the hard work of all involved over the last five years.
The Grootbos Florilegium is the first contemporary African florilegium. Its intention is to celebrate and honor the Cape fynbos and the Cape Floral Kingdom in the southern Overberg, as a valuable botanical heritage of South Africa and as a record of the many rare, endemic and endangered plants of the region. The Florilegium is a global collaboration, featuring carefully selected botanical artists. 35 celebrated artists from South Africa, Zimbabwe, Reunion and the United Kingdom have lent their talent and expertise to the collaboration. A further 9 come from countries including the Netherlands, Brazil, the USA, Japan, Germany, South Korea and Italy.
The Grootbos Florilegium is representing nothing less than the best of the international botanical arts community.
Secure parking is available at the Grootbos Foundation offices. As Grootbos is a nature reserve, we have limited areas for parking and would like to ensure that space is reserved to make your experience as seamless as possible. Please consider carpooling if attending as a group, and indicate how many parking bays you will require upon making the booking.

A deeply interesting and uplifting experience, from beginning to end. The remarkable upliftment & empowerment work being done in the local community, to all the work and depth of interest in the biosphere, truly astonishing. As a beginner in Botanical Art drawing, as well as a very keen gardener, only with plants indigenous to the Cape Floral Kingdom, I was mesmerized and enchanted by the works in the art gallery. 2 hours was barely enough time to immerse myself in the work of every artist. What a surprise to find this world class facility right on Hermamus' doorstep. I found the talks so informative and was really impressed by the knowledge and enthusiasm of every staff member that we had contact with. The beauty of the works im the Florilegium was almost too much to take in In one visit. I will certainly be back with any visitors that I might have in the future.
