India Venster Guided Hike

Cape Town

Activity Description

One of the table mountain classics, this popular route weaves in and around India ravine and venster buttress, with the cables of the cablecar almost always present above. The route allows for spectacular views of each side of the mountain with sections that will get your blood pumping.

Let us guide you safely through the scrambles and show you the lifestyle of a Capetonian on the mountain.

Quick route description
India venster is classified as a (b grade) scramble, nothing too hard for anyone to handle with a good head for heights. starting at the lower cable station we’ll use a pathway following up under the cables to the contour path. after a short piece on the contour path, we’ll head up a series of low rock steps to a platform. next, the route follows up the gully running right to venster buttress. here we have the perfect photo opportunity of the actual venster(window) looking over India ravine. shortly after the window we’ll reach the easy scramble sections which our well-trained guides can coach you through if extra encouragement is needed. we will end the route by following around from fountain ledge to the back of table mountain from where we will reach the top.

Customer Reviews

I recently went on a guided hike up Table Mountain via the India Venster route, and it turned out to be one of the most rewarding experiences I've had. Initially, I was hesitant and considered choosing an easier route, but after discussing it with my guide, Dohann, I decided to take on the challenge---and I'm so glad I did! The hike was tough, with some sections requiring scrambling and climbing, but thanks to Dohann's expert guidance, I felt confident throughout. I was happy to have some prior climbing and bouldering experience, as it came in handy for the more technical parts. That said, I can't overstate how essential Dohann was in making this hike both safe and enjoyable. His knowledge of the mountain, its unique flora, and his patience with my slower pace were invaluable. He provided clear tips and encouragement during the challenging sections, and his ability to navigate and even assist other hikers along the way was impressive. And then there were the views---absolutely breathtaking! The India Venster route offers spectacular scenery, but the panoramic vistas along the way and at the top made every ounce of effort worth it. If you're considering hiking Table Mountain and want a memorable and well-supported experience, I wholeheartedly recommend booking a guided hike with Dohann. It's an adventure I'll cherish for a long time! - Miriam

Absolute recommendation! The Indian Venster Trail on Table Mountain was my absolute "must do" for Cape Town, but unfortunately such activities are not always possible as a solo traveler. Dohann from Cape Mountain Guides was the perfect guide. He warned me about risky places to fall and showed me the best holds in advance during the climbing sections. I felt safe at all times on the tour to Table Mountain. There was also a lot of information about plants, animals and the landscape, life in South Africa and great insider tips for Cape Town. Thank you for this absolutely unforgettable day. - Daniela
