The Tsitsikamma Trail is a southern Cape hiking paradise, journeying through extensive indigenous afromontane forest and mountain fynbos. This slightly shorter variation of the full 6 Day hike lets us enjoy just enough of the enchanted mountain landscape.
Named after the old wood-cutters who used to pull or, the Afrikaans word “sleep”, timber out from the river gorges to the north of the hut. The two-day hike starts at the N2 Storms river Bridge and is a short hike of 3.4km into the cosy cabin settled close to the Storms River gorge. An Alternative route can be used through the Tsitsikamma national parks from Storms river Village. The route heads out to the Hanging rock through Plaatbos on the Skuinsbospad trail. Its crosses the N2 highway onto the Bosvaringpad where the indigenous forest displays all its beauty. This adds a few extra kilometres to the trail and is worth every meter.
The next day exits the mountains on either route.
