Customer Reviews

We didn't know where it was OK to park our car, and so probably walked much further to get to the dam than we needed to. A few signs would have been helpful. But it is a splendid walking area, and we wished we had a better map to show the paths, because the map which we were sold showed cycling and walking routes all jumbled together. And it wasn't clear where all the routes actually started from in relation to where the parking might have been. - Frank and Pauline Everest

Very poor map & non-existant signage. Even as an experienced walker, totally unable to decipher where to park and where the trails began. Track chosen ran into the reservoir after about 2km. Really beautiful area, would have loved to explore it! - A B

We did NOT have a good experience. The paths were poorly marked and there were hundreds of ticks which both us and our dogs picked up. There's always a risk of picking up a couple of ticks on a walk but the path to the dam must have been infested because we picked off well over a hundred ticks off our dogs and ourselves and considering the risk of illness that they carry, this was quite traumatic. Tourist information who had suggested this location for walking our dogs should have warned us the ticks were so bad. - brenda jobling

It's a very nice hike once you pass the bridge and are on paths rather than the concrete blocks but clearly is meant for bikes so distance from the gate to there is a little long for hikers and holds very little interest. Felt like being asked to pay R20 for the map was annoying after paying R50 for entering the hike but there are no indications on the way in terms of which path you are taking and where it leads - had taken a picture of the map at the entrance and we had to constantly refer to it. Aside from that great views all throughout. - Celine Bores

Staff was very helpful and knowledgeable. Two excellent walking experiences on two successive days. Well done another plus for the fabulous Franschhoek valley! - Russell Lowe
