Hermanus Whale Watchers is a boat- based whale watching company in Hermanus, South Africa offering exciting marine wildlife boat trips from December to mid-April
During this 90-minute oceanic adventure, we may encounter Walkerbay Sanctuary’s amazing wildlife while cruising along the coast’s stunning coastline.

Bryde’s Whales
African Penguins
Cape Fur Seals
Common – Bottlenose & Humpback dolphins
Sunfish
Cape Cormorants & various terns.

THE BOAT – Unathi is a 36-seater, 13-meter catamaran with two inboard diesel engines.
THE CREW: The skipper is a SAMSA registered skipper and all crew members are SATOUR registered guides
Unathi is a CHILD-FRIENDLY Vessel

Arrangements

Duration1 hour 30 minutes
When- If the weather permits we will have a daily trip from December - mid-April. - We will be closed on Christmas Day and New Year.
Where-The trip starts and ends at the New Harbor in Hermanus (Westcliff Road, Hermanus, Western Cape, South Africa) - Immediately upon entering the gate at the New Harbor, you will see an orange building on your right. You have arrived at the offices of Hermanus Whale Watchers. - Arrival time is 30 minutes before departure.
WeatherAll trips are weather dependent.
What to Wear- It is always cold at sea and even more so as the boat will be moving and you might want to enjoy the view from the top deck. - We suggest therefore that you bring a warm top or a windbreaker. - Do not wear flip-flops as you might slip on the wet surface.
Things to Bring- Camera, snacks, soft drinks, sunblock, sunglasses, and a hat. - If you are prone to seasickness we recommend that you take anti - nausea medication the night before and at least two hours prior to the trip. By law we are not allowed to supply any medication.
Guests or Spectators- Only paying guests will be allowed on the boat. - No alcohol is allowed on the boat - No animals are allowed on the boat. - Arrival time is 30 minutes before arrival.

Notes

The duration: of the trip is 90 minutes but can sometimes be longer, depending on the weather and sightings.
- Departure time is: 09:00
- Trip times might vary due to weather and tide conditions.

- Guiding: You will be accompanied by one of our SATOUR-qualified guides for the duration of the trip.
Our guides have first-hand knowledge of the marine wildlife of this area.

- Your trip will start at our orange office where you will be required to sign an indemnity and confirm payment before going on the boat.
- Kylin and Angelique will welcome you and brief you on the procedures we will follow as well as the available facilities. For your convenience, there are two toilets at the office as well as two toilets on the boat.
- After a short orientation briefing by the guide, you will walk down to the boat- a short 2-minute walk with a beautiful view over Walker Bay.
- Once on board one of the crew will give a briefing about the trip, safety, and facilities on board as well as the marine wildlife they expect to encounter.

All that is left is to enjoy the trip!

We were really fortunate to come across a very large pod of dophins that stayed around the boat for about 20 minutes without a hard chase. The crew said it was the largest they'd seen and were even taking photos and video themselves, so there is other marine to see if the Whales are not around as the season for seeing them had pasted. My photos don't do the experience any justice. - Steve
